Welcome to the Department of Chemistry in Kavala

The Department of Chemistry in Kavala has been part of Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) since 2024 (Law 5094/2024). This development is significant as it brings advantages both to our Department and to our students. DUTH is one of the seven major research universities in Greece, which also include the Universities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Crete, Ioannina, and Thessaly. These universities are considered “major” because they cover almost all scientific fields, from classical and natural sciences to medicine, engineering, and agriculture.

Being part of a major research university means that DUTH promotes learning through research, which is a core principle of the Department of Chemistry in Kavala. At the heart of our research activities is the School’s established Hephaestus Laboratory, a medium-to-large-scale facility with scientific equipment exceeding €15M.

The Department of Chemistry in Kavala is a high-level, rigorous, and demanding department, fully equivalent to other Chemistry Departments in Greece. It offers complete professional rights, outstanding faculty, state-of-the-art equipment, and innovative educational practices. The Department has received excellent evaluation from the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE).
